Goal is to raise $50,000 for breast cancer research and patient support
The American Cancer Society’s Men Wear Pink of Central New York is gearing up for a milestone year as it hosts the Fifth Annual Riders Wear Pink Bicycle Ride on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 7 Hamlets Brewing Company, 26 Seymour Lane in Westmoreland.
What began as a community cycling event has grown into a powerful movement supporting those affected by breast cancer. Over the past four years, Riders Wear Pink participants, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters have helped raise more than $100,000 to fund breast cancer research, patient support programs, and lifesaving resources through the American Cancer Society.
This year, organizers have set an ambitious goal of raising $50,000 while bringing together riders, families, survivors, caregivers, and community advocates for a day of purpose, awareness, and celebration.
Men Wear Pink Ambassadors Israel Acosta of M&T Bank and Eddie Barone of First Source Federal Credit Union are once again serving as event co-chairs.
“Most of us know someone who has faced breast cancer, which is why this ride means so much,” said Acosta. “It’s incredible to see our community come together each year to support patients, families, and lifesaving research.”
Participants can choose from three ride options:
• 50-Mile Scenic Ride — Departs at 9 a.m. and travels from Westmoreland to Sylvan Beach and back.
• 20-Mile Ride — Departs at 10:30 a.m.
• The Pink Mile — A family-friendly one-mile ride beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Following the rides, participants, supporters, and community members are invited to a post-ride celebration beginning at 12:30 p.m. featuring live entertainment, food and drink specials, raffles, and family-friendly activities including special appearances from the Utica ZooMobile, face painting by T-Swift, and 7 Hamlets Brewing Company’s Oktoberfest festivities.
“What started as a bike ride has become a community tradition,” said Barone. “We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together and invite everyone to join us as we celebrate our fifth year and continue supporting this important mission.”
Current sponsors include: First Source Federal Credit Union (presenting sponsor); Birch Wealth Management (pink chair sponsor); and Blooming Pediatric & Family Nurse Practitioners, Blue Truck Wine & Liquor, Caruso Orthodontics, PLLC, Ayouch & Mantle Financial Group (pink mile sponsors).
